Purpose:  To satisfy my want to learn how to make food decently and most importantly, to satisfy my tummy while doing so.  ^_^_^

Hypothesis:  If I follow the directions carefully, then the Strawberry Bruschetta should be palatable, hopefully.  ^_^

Materials:
  1. 4 thick slices whole-wheat bread
  2. 6 tablespoons light brown sugar
  3. 1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
  4. 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  5. 3 cups sliced or diced hulled strawberries
  6. 4 tablespoons mascarpone (Italian cream cheese)
Procedure:
  1. Toast bread in a toaster.
  2. Meanwhile, heat a large skillet over high heat. Add sugar, lemon zest and lemon juice and cook, stirring, until the sugar melts and the mixture begins to bubble, 30 seconds to 1 minute. Add strawberries and stir until juices begin to exude and the berries are heated through, 30 seconds to 1 minute more.
  3. Spread 1 tablespoon mascarpone on each piece of toast. Top with the warm berries.

Yield: 4 servings

Results:  TBA

Error Analysis:  TBA

"Sleep loss is taking a toll on our physical and emotional health..." [one of mi problemas]

  • Mar. 6th, 2006 at 3:47 PM
Today, one in six adults report getting less than six hours of sleep nightly.  and i'm just a teenager =\   Most people need between seven and eight hours of sleep each night to feel refreshed and function optimally, says Hunt.

there's strong evidence that lost sleep is a serious matter. yea, i knew that The Sleep in America polls and several large studies have linked sleep deficits with poor work performance, driving accidents, relationship problems, and mood problems like anger and depression. hm...

A growing list of health risks has been documented in recent studies, too. Heart disease, diabetes, and obesity have all been linked with chronic sleep loss. i know...  =|

"People just don't realize how important sleep is, i do... and what the health consequences are of not getting a good night's sleep on a regular basis," Hunt tells WebMD. "Sleep is just as important for overall health as diet and exercise." speaking of, i've been wanting to go jogging or play tennis or something physical.... i notice that i usually feel better when i'm more active.  i wanna be a part of the cirque de hip-hop with FiERCE, but i don't have time >.<

Hypersomnia: ?This is sleep deprivation, or excessive daytime sleepiness without an obvious cause. well, i do tend to not be able to concentrate as well in class anymore...but..This pattern "should be taken very seriously," Mahowald writes. The result is sleepiness, which results in impaired sustained attention, with adverse, occasionally disastrous consequences in the classroom, workplace, or the highways. It is likely that more than 100,000 crashes occur annually in the U.S. due to driving while drowsy, he adds.

If you're getting less sleep than your body needs, there can be serious consequences. yea, i've been told that a lot

"There's recent evidence showing -- in men and women in several countries -- that chronic sleep deprivation increases risk of early death," yea, i know -_- Hunt tells WebMD. "Studies are showing that people who get less sleep are at greater risk for heart disease and heart attacks."

The most worrisome part: Many people are too tired to realize how sleep-deprived they are, experts say. But they have slower reaction time, weaker memory, and other thinking impairments.

Indeed, doctors, nurses, and other health professionals are especially vulnerable to the effects of sleep loss - and patient safety may suffer because of it. ...that's great to know ;]   ..i thought about being in the medical profession....but i'm pretty sure i'm not going to pursue it.. Studies on performance of sleep-deprived doctors have suggested that they may be prone to more errors on routine, repetitive tasks - and also on tasks that require close attention for long periods. However, those same studies show that, in times of crisis or unusual situations, doctors may be able to rise to the occasion and function well. aH~ that's better =]

By making sure you get enough sleep, you're improving your quality of life. "Sleep deprivation has a cumulative effect, escalating over time in fatigue, sleepiness, stress, mood problems," Kaplan tells WebMD.
